What is the difference between GTIN and MPN, and do I need either for custom products?
A GTIN is a globally unique barcode number assigned to standardized retail products, while an MPN is a manufacturer part number used when a product has no GTIN but is still mass produced. Custom and handmade products usually have neither, since they are one of a kind. For these items you do not need to source or invent an identifier. You simply set "identifier exists" to "No".
Will setting "identifier exists" to "No" affect my ad performance or visibility?
No. When a product genuinely has no standard identifier, marking it correctly is the intended setup and does not reduce visibility. Google uses identifiers to match products to catalog data, so for unique items where no match exists, the "No" setting tells Google exactly that and lets your listing run normally.
Can I set this for only some products rather than my entire catalog?
Yes. You can apply the "identifier exists" setting selectively, so standard products keep their GTINs while only your custom or handmade items are marked as having no identifier. The Bulk Edit option lets you filter and update these products together without touching the rest of your catalog.
